Some local polling places lose power during heavy rain, according to Leon County Supervisor of Elections

  • November 4, 2026

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Heavy showers over the Big Bend are just briefly raining on the Election Day parade, according to Leon County Supervisor of Elections Mark Earley.

Earley told WCTV that the county has had at least four polling places with power outages.

He said the voting machines can run for several hours on internal batteries, and the electronic poll books have backup battery supplies.

WCTV Election 2026:

Earley told WCTV that if those backups stop working, poll workers will begin checking people in using “old-fashioned” paper precinct registers.

According to Earley, some power has been restored, and some locations are currently running on backup generators or battery packs.

Earley told WCTV that City of Tallahassee Utilities is prioritizing restoring power to those polling places.
