Fort Myers City Council will consider approving the Billy Creek Apartments Planned Unit Development at 1455 Lockwood Drive.
Council set a Nov. 16 public hearing to consider the project, a 96-unit multifamily complex proposed by property owner Luis Jurado of Premiere Development Solutions LLC. It includes a clubhouse, playground, pedestrian bridge, green space and a potential dock for nonmotorized boats, according to a staff report. The plan calls for developing five of the site’s 8 acres, with the remaining acreage reserved as wetlands.
City staff recommends approval, but the plan received mixed reviews from the Fort Myers Planning Board. The board voted 5-1 in July to deny the developer’s requested Residential Medium Density zoning over concerns about traffic levels, the impact on the area’s single-family residences and drainage issues.
But the board voted 4-3 in August to recommend approval, finding the project consistent with the city’s comprehensive plan. Dissenting members continued to raise concerns about the multifamily apartment plan’s compatibility with the existing neighborhood.
