Residents of Cape Coral are voicing concerns about the potential relocation of Four Freedoms Park as part of the city’s Bimini East project, which plans to develop new shops, hotels and a boardwalk.Elena Saylor, a Cape Coral resident, cherishes the view of her home from Four Freedoms Park. “It’s always been my favorite park. When he passed away, it was very natural to come to this decision to put a bench here,” Saylor said. Her late husband, a contractor in Cape Coral, is remembered at his dedicated park bench. While Saylor is not opposed to redevelopment, she questions why it has to occur at this location. Another resident, Matthew Mahr, expressed disappointment over the potential changes, especially after the demolition of Jaycee Park. “It’s disappointing. Ever since they demolished Jaycee Park, this is our best go-to,” Mahr said. John and Deanna Klockow, who previously protested Jaycee Park’s renovation, also oppose further park changes. “We lost Jaycee Park to commercial development without any citizens’ input or very, very little,” Deanna Klockow said. Despite these concerns, the city says they have no current plans to relocate the park. They also note that Four Freedoms Park will remain a public space, regardless of its location.
