TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A holiday tradition in Tallahassee’s Frenchtown neighborhood is coming to a halt this year.
Annie Johnson, the founder of the non-profit Project Annie, said her annual Thanksgiving community meal is canceled this year.
For nearly three decades, the event has fed more than 2,000 people on Thanksgiving Day.
Johnson said the cancelation comes down to state paperwork. She has transformed the building into a nursery school but can’t receive her license to open until the non-profit vacates the location.
Because regulators prohibit two businesses from operating in the same space, Project Annie is moving out, leaving Johnson without a facility to prepare the annual feast.

Johnson shared a message of gratitude for the community.
“I appreciate all that they have done for me these 28 years. They have really, really been good to me,” Johnson said. “So, I don’t want them to send in any money or anything to Project Annie until I get the paperwork straightened out.”
She asked people to not send any specifically Thanksgiving food or monetary donations to the old Project Annie building.
Johnson hopes to have Thanksgiving for the community next year.
