WHEN THIS SHOOTING FIRST HAPPENED ON MONDAY NIGHT, POLICE SAID THEY BELIEVE THE MOTIVE WAS A LONG STANDING DISPUTE BETWEEN NEIGHBORS. WELL, WE NOW KNOW THAT DISPUTE INCLUDED THE HOA AND A THREAT OF EVICTION. PORT SAINT LUCIE POLICE RELEASED THIS VIDEO WEDNESDAY NIGHT SHOWING OFFICERS ARRIVING INSIDE THE TROPICAL EAST COMMUNITY MONDAY AFTERNOON. RUNNING TOWARD THE AREA WHERE SHOTS HAD BEEN FIRED. POLICE HAVE SINCE LEARNED THAT 62 YEAR OLD PAUL MORENO SHOT AND KILLED HIS NEIGHBORS. 54 YEAR OLD MARK GOLDEN AND 85 YEAR OLD DAVID GACIC, BEFORE GOING INTO THE HOME OF 77 YEAR OLD SUZANNE ROTHERMEL AND HOLDING HER HOSTAGE FOR ABOUT AN HOUR. AND INVESTIGATORS SAY THEY NOW KNOW WHAT LED TO THE VIOLENCE. POLICE ISSUED A NEWS RELEASE WEDNESDAY NIGHT SAYING THERE WERE, QUOTE, DOCUMENTED DISTURBANCES BETWEEN MARINO AND GOLDEN. THEY ALSO SAY MARINO WAS FIGHTING WITH THE HOA, WHICH WAS, QUOTE, IN THE PROCESS OF EVICTING MARINO FROM HIS RESIDENCE. ACCORDING TO INVESTIGATORS, MARINO WAS ORDERED TO VACATE THE PROPERTY HE WAS RESIDING IN BY DECEMBER 14TH, 2025. POLICE SAY GOLDEN WAS THE HOA TREASURER. THE OTHER VICTIM, DAVID GASIC, WAS MARRIED TO THE HOA SECRETARY. THEY DIDN’T DESERVE ANY OF THIS. I’M. I STILL CAN’T BELIEVE THAT THEY’RE NOT HERE. Police believe eviction threats led to Port St. Lucie double shooting

Port St. Lucie police released bodycam footage Wednesday night showing officers responding to a shooting incident in the Tropical East community on Monday afternoon, where shots had been fired.Police have identified the shooter as 62-year-old Paul Maraio, who shot and killed his neighbors, 54-year-old Mark Golden and 85-year-old David Gasik, before entering the home of 77-year-old Suzanne Rothermel and holding her hostage for about an hour.”We always said someday he’s going to blow, but we never thought it would be this bad,” Rothermel said. She was unharmed during the incident.Maraio shot himself in Rothermel’s home and died the next morning. Investigators believe they have since uncovered the motive for the violence. According to a police news release issued Wednesday night, there were documented disturbances between Maraio and Golden. Maraio was also in conflict with the HOA, which was in the process of evicting him from his residence. Investigators stated that Maraio was ordered to vacate the property by Dec. 14, 2025.Police noted that Golden was the HOA treasurer, and the other victim, David Gasik, was married to the HOA secretary.”They didn’t deserve any of this. Police have identified the shooter as 62-year-old Paul Maraio, who shot and killed his neighbors, 54-year-old Mark Golden and 85-year-old David Gasik, before entering the home of 77-year-old Suzanne Rothermel and holding her hostage for about an hour.
“We always said someday he’s going to blow, but we never thought it would be this bad,” Rothermel said. She was unharmed during the incident.
Maraio shot himself in Rothermel’s home and died the next morning.
