Connor Dietrich remains in the ICU at St. Joseph’s Hospital

Kimberly Maus, Hancock’s mother and Dietrich’s godmother, is grateful the two are alive

Riley Hancock is now out of the ICU but remains on the trauma floor at Tampa General Hospital. Her mother, Kimberly Maus, said that Hancock doesn’t remember much from the crash, but she has extensive injuries from head to toe.

Maus is also the godmother of a different victim. She said her godson, Connor Dietrich, remains in the ICU.

Saturday morning, Maus got multiple voicemails. They were the kind of messages that no one ever wants to get.

“I spent roughly two hours and I didn’t know whether or not they were alive and that was tough,” Maus said.

Hancock and Dietrich were hit by the car involved in the crash in Ybor City early Saturday morning.

“They’re great kids, they weren’t doing anything wrong, they were responsible. They were sitting there just having a drink, waiting to go back inside. They had Ubered, they were super responsible and then we get something like this,” Maus said.

Hancock has a cut across her entire face, ten spinal fractures, a collapsed lung, multiple broken ribs, a broken scapula, third-degree burns and more.

“She runs through the emotions — she’s sad, she’s confused, she asks a lot of the same questions again, and it’s probably from the concussion. She asks a lot about Connor,” Maus said.

Dietrich and his brother, Brandon, who was also there Saturday night, survived the Marjory Stoneman Douglas shooting in Parkland in 2018.

“It’s sad, two major life events both happening to these boys, but they’re both strong, they’re strong boys,” she said.

Maus is grateful that her daughter and godsons are alive.

“We’ll take it — she’s alive, Connor’s alive — by the grace of God, we’ll take it. All the injuries, will take them,” she said.

Maus said Hancock’s recovery will be extensive and Dietrich remains in critical condition.
