ORLANDO, Fla. — The Legal Aid Society of the Orange County Bar Association helps pay for attorneys to help residents of Central Florida who can least afford them in civil matters.
The society held its Breakfast of Champions event in Orlando on Thursday.
The event featured 350 local attorneys, law enforcement leaders and supporters who gathered to celebrate the legal aid society’s work and the clients that it helps.
The fundraiser helps pay for staff to help people who need justice in civil cases but cannot afford an attorney.
Executive Director Bethanie Barber says her team represents abused and neglected children and many other clients too.
“So when people think of civil legal aid, they think of housing assistance, preventing evictions, domestic violence injunctions, divorces for people who are escaping dangerous situations,” Barber said.
The group helped 9,000 people last year.
