FORT PIERCE – For Chloe Tucker, 17, of Fort Pierce, what started as a simple decision to help is quickly growing into a local initiative collecting non-perishable food items and personal hygiene products for neighbors facing hardship.
Residents can drop off donations or pick up needed items at any time outside Tucker’s home at 6803 Citrus Park Blvd, Fort Pierce, FL 34951. Much like a little free library where residents can pick up and drop off their favorite reads, contributions to Chloe’s pantry are re-distributed directly to those in need, with no strings attached.
The initial container filled up almost immediately. Items are clearly labeled and organized, making it easy for anyone to browse and select what they require—whether it’s canned goods, toiletries, or other essentials.
“I’ve been really into politics recently and seeing the government shutdown and knowing people aren’t going to get the amount of food they need,” Tucker explained. “People already can’t get what they need with SNAP benefits.”
Her motivation runs deeper than policy debates. A recent encounter with a homeless individual left a lasting impact. “I heard someone tell me the other day when being asked if they need anything—it was a homeless person—and he said, ‘I just need people to treat me like a human being.’ That just broke my heart,” she said.
Tucker’s drive embodies the spirit of neighbors helping neighbors. In a community where food insecurity affects many, her accessible, no-questions-asked approach ensures dignity and practicality for everyone involved.
