CAPE CORAL, Fla. — On Tuesday, September 16, 2025 at around 1:25 PM, the Cape Coral Police Department got a call about a body found at a home at 4338 Jacaranda Pkwy W. Family members said they had been trying to get ahold of their mother and were unable to reach her, so they drove to house, went in, observed bloody foot prints, and located their mother’s body. Officers responded to the scene and located 69-year-old Rosemary Johnson deceased with a significant number of stab wounds to her head and neck.

A neighborhood canvass led to the discovery that the decedent’s son, later identified as Devin Bryant Johnson (DOB 05/20/1997), was observed leaving the home in a 2019 gray Toyota Corolla shortly before police arrived on scene. Our dispatch put out a BOLO (Be On the Lookout) for Johnson to surrounding agencies. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office Aviation and Patrol Deputies assisted our agency in quickly locating the vehicle in their jurisdiction and attempted a traffic stop. Johnson evaded law enforcement, but LCSO Aviation continued to keep eyes on the vehicle as Johnson traveled into Collier County. Collier County Deputies disabled Johnson’s vehicle using stop-sticks at 11200 Tamiami Trail North in Naples. Johnson exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Collier County Deputies chased him on foot and took him down. Due to his aggressive resistance to law enforcement, a Cape Coral Police Department K9 was utilized to complete his capture. While trying to put cuffs on Johnson, he struck the K9 multiple times, and attempted to take an officer’s firearm.

The vehicle driven by Johnson was seized by law enforcement and officers noted the presence of blood on the exterior and interior. Johnson’s shoes also had noticeable blood on them.

Johnson was first booked into the Collier County Jail for criminal charges including Fleeing and Eluding Law Enforcement, Battery on Law Enforcement, Attempting to take a Law Enforcement Officer’s Firearm, and Animal Cruelty.

During the time Johnson was fleeing, Cape Coral Police Department Violent Crimes Detectives and our Forensics Unit were actively working the crime scene at 4338 Jacaranda Pkwy W.

Family members told Detectives Johnson had a documented history of domestic violence and substance abuse. Our investigation also determined Johnson had purchased a plane ticket to Costa Rica that day.

Devin Johnson is the sole suspect in this homicide, and has been charged with 2nd Degree Murder.

We want to thank the following agencies: the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Florida Highway Patrol, and Collier County Sheriff’s Office. Their assistance was crucial in arresting Johnson following the murder of his mother.

Our Forensics Unit has been integral to this investigation, meticulously collecting and analyzing countless pieces of evidence. We also want to thank the neighboring community for their support. While this case remains very much active, a significant step has been taken with this arrest.

We will continue working tirelessly to build a strong case. Justice for the victim and her family remains our priority.
