THAT CALL, AN EIGHT YEAR OLD BOY IN EDGEWATER, HAD TO GIVE HIS FATHER NARCAN JUST TO KEEP HIM ALIVE. WESH TWO BOB HAZEN TELLS US THE FATHER IS NOW FACING CHARGES. 44 YEAR OLD DANIEL JOHNSON FACES A CHARGE FOR CHILD NEGLECT. HIS EIGHT YEAR OLD SON SAVING HIM WITH NARCAN, THEN CALLING 911. CAN YOU SEE IF HE’S BREATHING? YEAH. THE DAD, DANIEL JOHNSON, IS NOW HERE AT THE VOLUSIA COUNTY JAIL AFTER GETTING OUT OF THE HOSPITAL. OFFICIALS SAY HE OD’D ON HEROIN. BUT BEFORE HE PASSED OUT, THEY SAY HE COACHED HIS SON ON WHAT TO DO IF SOMETHING HAPPENED TO HIM. CAN YOU YELL TO YOUR DAD TO SEE IF HE’LL WAKE UP? CAN YOU JUST SAY, DADDY, WAKE UP? I EVEN TRIED HITTING YOU. YOU TRIED HITTING HIM AND HE DIDN’T WAKE UP. ACCORDING TO AN ARREST REPORT, JOHNSON TOLD DEPUTIES, QUOTE HE SMOKED HEROIN IN HIS GARAGE AWAY FROM HIS SON. AND PRIOR TO SMOKING, INSTRUCTED HIS SON ON WHAT TO DO IF SOMETHING HAPPENED TO HIM. IT ALSO SAYS UPON FINDING HIS FATHER UNCONSCIOUS, THE BOY IMMEDIATELY ACTED AND GAVE HIS FATHER NARCAN LIKE HE WAS SHOWN. DAD TOLD ME TO USE THE THING THAT WAS IF HE WOULDN’T WAKE UP, IT WOULD SAVE HIM. BUT HE DID. NOTHING HAPPENED. THE ARREST REPORT SAYS JOHNSON CLAIMED HE USED THE DRUGS, QUOTE, DUE TO HIM BEING IN PAIN, AND FURTHERMORE STATED HE DID NOT USE NARCOTICS OFTEN, ONLY WHEN HE WAS UNABLE TO GET ANY KIND OF PRESCRIPTION MEDICATION. VOLUSIA COUNTY SHERIFF MIKE CHITWOOD POSTED ABOUT THE SITUATION, PRAISING THE BOY FOR HIS BRAVERY, WRITING, QUOTE, HIS COURAGE UNDOUBTEDLY SAVED HIS DAD’S LIFE, BUT IT’S TRAGIC THAT HE HAS TO EXPERIENCE SUCH TRAUMA AT SUCH A YOUNG AGE. JOHNSON WAS BOOKED INTO JAIL WITH HIS BOND SET AT $9,000.

An 8-year-old boy in Edgewater saved his father from a heroin overdose by administering Narcan and calling 911.The father, Daniel Johnson, 44, faces a charge of child neglect. Johnson is now in jail after being released from the hospital. Officials said he overdosed on heroin, but before that, he coached his son on what to do if something happened to him.According to an arrest report, Johnson told deputies “he smoked heroin in his garage away from his son, and prior to smoking instructed his son on what to do if something happened to him.” The report also states, “Upon finding his father unconscious, (the boy) immediately acted and gave his father Narcan like he was shown.””My dad told me to use this thing if he didn’t wake up, it would save him. But nothing happened,” the boy said during the 911 call.The report says Johnson said he used the drugs “due to him being in pain, and he did not use narcotics often, only when he was unable to get any kind of prescription medication.”Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood praised the boy for his bravery, writing, “His courage undoubtedly saved his dad’s life, but it’s tragic that he has to experience such trauma at such a young age.”Johnson was booked into jail with his bond set at $9,000.
