A car accident that occurred after 9 a.m. on Wednesday morning, on Savona Parkway West in Cape Coral has neighbors concerned about speeding drivers.

A video captured a car flipping onto its roof, ejecting the driver. Fortunately, Cape Coral police confirmed the driver sustained only minor injuries.

Michelle Blanco, a neighbor who witnessed the aftermath, expressed her shock.

“Oh my God. To see him fly out of the car like that, that’s scary. Oh my God. I hope he is okay,” said Blanco.

Blanco described the scene with police everywhere and the flipped car alongside a small SUV with a smashed front end.

“I was coming this way and there was just like cops everywhere, but the car was still flipped over. The other like small SUV, that the whole front end was smashed,” said Blanco.

Blanco said speeding is a problem along Savona Parkway West.

“I mean, you can see all the screech marks. These kids are flying up and down and racing each other, and I hear it all the time at night,” said Blanco.

The speed limit on Savona Parkway West is 40 miles per hour, but Blanco said speeding also happens near Gulf Middle School. Blanco wants cameras and stricter enforcement to prevent accidents.

“They need to lower the speed limits. That’s the problem. I mean, one of the problems, just these speed limits are too high,” said Blanco.

Cape Coral police said the city and Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) set speed limits, but enforcement is up to the police. They encourage residents to email detailed concerns to TrafficComplaints@capecoral.gov, so resources can be directed to problem areas.
