After an open week for playoff teams the Florida High School Athletic Association opens its eight state tournaments this week with 23 Orlando area squads in the mix.
That includes Oviedo (8-3), which played a Thursday night 6A Region 1 game in Gainesville. The Lions, the No. 8 seed, threw a scare into top seed Buchholz (10-1) before falling 49-41.
There are also Sunshine State Athletic Association semifinals tonight with three teams contending.
Friday game times are 7 p.m. unless noted otherwise. Rankings in bold are from the Sentinel Super 16 coaches poll.

Lake Gibson (5-5) at No. 1 Edgewater (10-0)Â

This is a Class 5A Region 2 quarterfinal. Edgewater, the region’s top seed, is No. 1 in the overall 5A rankings — which means the Eagles are positioned to be at home for every game through the state semifinal round.
Edgewater’s fourth 10-0 regular season in program history is its third in four years (2022, 2023, 2025).
Hagerty (6-4) at No. 7 Lake Mary (7-3)

This is a 7A Region 1 quarterfinal. The Rams are No. 2, Hagerty No. 7 in the region seedings.
Lake Mary routed the Huskies 55-17 in a Sept. 26 district game.
No. 13 Winter Park (6-4) at No. 6 Boone (9-1)

This is a 7A Region 1 quarterfinal. Boone is No. 4 and the Wildcats are No. 5 in the region rankings.
The Braves overcame a 10-point deficit in beating the Wildcats 44-38 in an Oct. 10 game that decided the District 4 title. Running backs Aaron Hardy Jr. (Boone) and Decorie Johnson (Winter Park) were superb in that game. Hardy scored the game-winning 17-yard touchdown run with 1:12 remaining.
Lake Nona (7-3) at No. 16 St. Cloud (8-2) 7:30

This is a 7A Region 3 quarterfinal. Lake Nona is the fifth seed and St. Cloud the fourth.
St. Cloud topped the Lions 25-17 on Sept. 26 in a game that decided the District 10 title — the first for the Bulldogs since 2015.
Other Friday FHSAA playoff games
Deltona (5-5) at No. 2 Jones (8-2) 7:30
This is a 4A Region 2 quarterfinal with Jones seeded No. 1 and Deltona No. 8.
The Tigers, state runners-up last season, are the top-rated team in the FHSAA 4A power rankings. That positions them to be at home four weeks in a row in regional and state semifinal games.
Creekside (4-6) at No. 3 DeLand (10-0) 7:30
This is a 7A Region 1 quarterfinal at Spec Martin Stadium.
DeLand is the top seed in the region and the top-ranked 7A team in the state.
This marked only the second 10-0 regular season for DeLand football in the 106 years since the Bulldogs played their first game in 1920.
Game is at Spec Martin Stadium in DeLand.
Plant City (7-3) at No. 4 West Orange (9-1) 7:30
This is a 7A Region 2 quarterfinal and a rematch of a game West Orange rallied (twice) to win 26-25 in last year’s playoffs. The Warriors are seeded fourth, Plant City fifth in the region.
West Orange lost only to Boone, 27-21, in a game that could have gone either way.
Hernando (7-3) at No. 8 Bishop Moore (9-1)
This is a 3A Region 2 quarterfinal. Bishop Moore is top-seeded in the region. Hernando is No. 8.
The Hornets, region runner-up to Eau Gallie last year, make their 18th consecutive playoff appearance.
No. 10 Dr. Phillips (7-3) at Jupiter (10-0)
This is a 7A Region 3 quarterfinal. Jupiter is the No. 2 seed, DP No. 7 in the region. The Warriors are 10-0 for the first time in school history.
The Panthers were the region champions a year ago.
No. 11 Evans (8-2) at Pace (9-1) 7:30
The Trojans travel 436 miles one way for this 6A Region 1 quarterfinal. Pace is the No. 3 seed, Evans No. 6 in the region. Kickoff is 8:30 p.m. our time.
Durant (5-5) at No. 12 Kissimmee Osceola (6-4)
This is a 6A Region 2 quarterfinal. Osceola is the region No. 3 seed, Durant No. 6.
The Kowboys are making their 19th consecutive playoff appearance and are 22-5 in first round games. They beat Durant 35-6 a year ago.
No. 14 Seminole (5-5) at Spruce Creek (8-2) 7:30
This is a 7A Region 1 quarterfinal and a rematch of an Oct. 17 game that Seminole won in overtime, 16-10, at home in Sanford.
Spruce Creek is the No. 3 seed, Seminole No. 6 in the region.
Tampa Plant (5-5) at No. 15 South Lake (9-1)
This is a 6A Region 2 quarterfinal. South Lake is the No. 2 seed. Plant is No. 7.
This is the first home playoff game for the Eagles in 25 years. South Lake defeated Land O’ Lakes that year before losing in the second round.
Ocoee (5-5) at Sumner (8-2) 7:30
This is a 7A Region 2 quarterfinal. Sumner is the No. 3 seed, the Knights No. 6.
Ocoee’s losses were to five Orange County playoff teams that reached the playoffs with a combined 39-11 record — Boone, Dr. Phillips, Jones, West Orange and Winter Park.
Lake Nona (7-3) at St. Cloud (8-2)
This is a 7A Region 3 game. St. Cloud topped the Lions 25-17 on Sept. 26 in a game that decided the District 10 title — the first for the Bulldogs since 2015.
East Ridge (6-4) at 1 Vero Beach (10-0)
The No. 8 seed Knights face No. 1 Vero in this 7A Region 3 game. It’s East Ridge’s first playoff appearance in 14 years (2011).
Winter Springs (7-3) at 3 Gaither (9-1), 7:30
This is a 5A Region 2 quarterfinal. Gaither is the No. 3 seed, Winter Springs No. 6.
The Bears make their first playoff appearance since 2019 district title run, but got a tough draw. Gaither is 9-0 since losing its opener to undefeated Armwood, 38-21.
Tavares (6-4) at Eau Gallie (7-3) 7:30
This is a 3A Region 2 quarterfinal. The host Commodores are the No. 2 seed. Tavares, No. 7, locked down its playoff berth with a 77-35 win against East Ridge to close the regular season.
Orlando Christian Prep (6-4) at Melbourne Central Catholic (2-7)
This is a 1A Region 2 quarterfinal and a rematch of a district title game MCC won 38-14. The Hustlers are seeded No. 4 with OCP No. 5 in the region.
Sunshine State Athletic Association playoff gamesÂ
Mount Dora Christian (11-1) at Foundation Academy (10-2)Â
This is a Sunshine State Athletic Association semifinal game. The winner advances to the Nov. 22 final at The Villages.
The last time they played Foundation won 21-7 in a 2022 regular season game.
Real Life Christian (11-0) at Merritt Island Christian (11-1)
This is a semifinal game in the SSAA 8-man football league. The winner advances to the Nov. 21 final at The Villages.
Real Life, located in Clermont, is in its seventh year of 8-man football. Senior quarterback Caleb Burden has thrown 24 TD passes and run for 16 scores for the Raptors.
