A woman is fighting for her life after a devastating fire engulfed a Port Charlotte home. Nikki Bostic is in critical condition at Tampa General Hospital following the blaze that broke out Thursday afternoon on McGuire Avenue.

Her husband, Roy Bostic, suffered burns in the incident.

The fire marshal said they are still investigating the cause of the fire.

Sue Bostic, the homeowner’s mother, spoke about the accident, saying her son was working on his motorcycle when he hit a fuel line, sparking the fire.

“We just need Nikki to make it through. That’s our top priority,” said Sue Bostic.

Roy Bostic, an Army veteran, and his wife Nikki have been married for nine years, having held their wedding in the very home that burned. Sue Bostic shared the severity of Nikki’s condition.

“She’s in extreme critical condition. They’re cleaning, trying to clean her blood. They’ve got her on kidney dialysis and everything,” she said.

Christina Ramirez, the Bostics’ neighbor, witnessed the fire and Roy’s attempts to save Nikki.

“To watch it happen to a good person at that was very heartbreaking for me,” said Ramirez.

Ramirez described Roy’s desperate efforts to reach his wife through the windows, saying, “He was pulling them off with his hands. He pulled the two off the back window with his hands. They had to cut through them. They’ve been on there for a while.”

Charlotte County Fire and EMS reported that the silver storm shutters, bolted to the windows, made it challenging for firefighters to reach Nikki inside.

“If there’s not a storm approaching, keep your shutters off your house. It helps us get to you a lot faster. Make sure that you know two ways out of your house,” said Scott Morris, the fire marshal.

Despite the destruction of nearly everything in the Bostics’ home, the family is focused on Nikki’s recovery.

“This can be taken care of. It’s just we need Nikki, you know, to be okay,” said Sue Bostic.

She added, “Just please everybody, I think prayer is the most important thing. Just pray for them.”
