Pinellas Park Fire Department fights fire with hazardous material concerns

  • November 15, 2025

PINELLAS PARK, Fla. (WWSB) – On the night of Nov.14, a chemical fire broke out at an industrial facility on the 5300 block of 62nd Avenue North. The Pinellas Park Fire Department (PPFD) responded promptly and has contained the chemical fire.

Fire and hazmat crews located a refrigerated storage container holding industrial peroxide- and acetone-based materials. These chemicals are commonly used in manufacturing and were stored on the company’s property in a controlled unit according to PPFD.

PPFD said that as the container began to heat, it produced a visible plume and an odor. Firefighters applied water to cool the container, and because it was also a refrigerated unit, crews were able to bring the temperature down steadily. As the temperature decreased, the reaction inside the container slowed to manageable levels.

Pinellas Park neighborhoods in the area were advised to remain indoors due possible hazardous chemical concerns during the incident.

One firefighter was transported to the Emergency Department in stable condition and was released.

PPFD said that out of an abundance of caution, anyone who believes they were directly exposed or is experiencing symptoms should contact their healthcare provider.
