Five people were arrested in connection with a kidnapping that spanned several cities and ended in a crash in Pompano Beach, sparking a large response from numerous law enforcement agencies, officials said Friday.

The incident began Thursday at a McDonald’s on State Road 84 in Davie, where the suspects approached the victim, took his phone and told him he needed to get into their car if he wanted it back, Davie Police said.

The suspects drove the victim to the 700 block of Northwest 9th Avenue in Fort Lauderdale, where they forced him out of the car and struck him, police said. The victim fled and called 911 to report that he had been kidnapped from Davie.

Fort Lauderdale Police found the suspects’ vehicle, which fled to Pompano Beach. Video from the scene showed that a white SUV had crashed into a pole in front of a restaurant near Dr. MLK Jr. Boulevard and Northwest 6th Avenue.

That crash prompted a massive law enforcement response of Fort Lauderdale Police, Davie Police and Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies.

Video from Chopper6 showed officers armed with long guns and swarming an apartment building across the street from where the SUV crashed.

Multiple squad cars and BSO deputies were also spotted a block away near the transit center on 3rd Avenue.

The suspects – identified as 30-year-old Tracey Ross, 18-year-old Lamar Perry and 18-year-old Timothy Brown – were later located and taken into custody. Two others, who are minors, were also taken into custody.

Davie Police arrested them for kidnapping and transported them to BSO’s main jail and juvenile assessment center.
