A tragic accident occurred on State Road 78 near the Pacific Avenue intersection when a 66-year-old bicyclist was struck by a car.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the bicyclist was attempting to cross traffic when she entered the direct path of an oncoming vehicle.
The car hit the woman, and she was transported to the hospital, where she later died.
At the time of the crash, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office informed WINK News that the westbound lanes were closed, but they have since reopened.
The crash remains under investigation.
