ORLANDO, Fla. — Beginning in December, the city of Orlando will begin removing artifacts from the former Pulse nightclub to start the next phase toward completing the permanent memorial.

They will transport and store the items in an environmentally controlled warehouse, according to city officials.

The city has made no final decisions on whether some items may become part of the permanent memorial.

The list of items getting removed includes:

Two chandeliers
Signage and posters
Ornamental framed mirror
Bar top
Track lighting including track
Cash register
Primary section of breach wall
Portion of the sunburst wall inside the club
Portion of the “glitter’ wall inside the club
Wood floor (as much as possible)
Rectangular ceiling pendent lights
iPad
The numbers on the outside of the building
Titles from the outside patio bar

Some items from the temporary memorial will also be removed and preserved: 

An approzimately 4’X8′ piece of the existing memorial fence
Benches on existing memorial site
Remembrance items left by family, friends and visitors

Once the items are removed, the city will begin the construction phase by clearing the site.

Officials anticipate site clearing to begin in March/April 2026, followed by the start of construction in early fall 2026.

The city plans for construction to be completed in late 2027.

Officials said they expect to share 30% of design plans in February/March 2026 and 60% of design plans in May 2026.
