A Lee County man received a 15-year prison sentence for leaving the scene of a fatal crash involving a bicyclist. Zenaido Martinez-Gomez was sentenced following his conviction in September.
Assistant State Attorney Mara Marzano of the Traffic Homicide Unit prosecuted the case.
Martinez-Gomez was also ordered to pay restitution for funeral expenses and complete 120 hours of community service. His driver’s license was revoked for five years, and he will serve five years of probation following his prison term.
The Florida Highway Patrol arrested Martinez-Gomez in July 2023 after he hit a cyclist near Douglas Lane and Ichabod Avenue in Lehigh Acres. Instead of stopping, he fled the scene, and the victim later died from his injuries.
Authorities located Martinez-Gomez’s vehicle at his home in Lehigh, leading to his arrest.
