A Lauderdale Lakes man is accused of shooting and killing his girlfriend, a social media influencer with a prominent following, during an argument on Friday night, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.
Shanoyd Whyte Jr., 25, is facing a charge of first-degree murder with a firearm in connection with the death of Maurice Harrison, 21, who is known as “Girlalala,” according to a news release.
About 7 p.m. Friday, deputies found Harrison with multiple gunshots in the front passenger seat of a car at a home on Northwest 37th Street after they responded to a medical call, according to a news release.
Whyte Jr. and Harrison had been arguing inside Whyte Jr.’s car, the Sheriff’s Office said. The argument turned into a physical fight, and Harrison was shot in the car, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Harrison died at Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale.
Whyte Jr. remained at the scene and was arrested there. Deputies also recovered a gun. He told detectives he and Harrison had been in a relationship for several years.
Harrison’s TikTok account, on which she described herself as a “wig influencer,” has nearly 300,000 followers. Whyte Jr. and Harrison frequently made videos together that Harrison shared on her social media accounts, some showing their dates together, gifts they bought one another or participating in viral TikTok trends together.
Founder of the rap duo City Girls Jatavia Johnson, better known by her stage name JT, donated $5,000 to a GoFundMe online fundraiser for Harrison’s funeral arrangements. The rapper posted on her Instagram after the shooting encouraging people to donate to the fundraiser and shared a photo of her with Harrison.
Court records were not available Monday.
