PORT ST. LUCIE — With Thanksgiving approaching, the City of Port St. Lucie reminds its residents of changes to the trash collection schedule after the holiday.

The following schedule will be in effect for collecting garbage, recycling, yard and bulk waste.

• Monday, Nov. 24, through Wednesday, Nov. 26, will be collected as scheduled.

• No collection services on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 27; landfill is closed.

• Thursday’s customers will be picked up Friday, Nov. 28.

• Friday’s customers will be picked up Saturday, Nov. 29.

The City’s Convenient Drop-off Center is closed Thursday, Nov. 27 and Friday, Nov. 28, but will re-open Saturday, Nov. 29.

To help facilitate the curbside collection process, residents are asked to:

Place black garbage carts and green recycling carts at the curb no later than 7 a.m. on your pickup day, but no earlier than 6 p.m. the evening before collection.

All household trash and garbage must be bagged and fit inside your black cart, with the lid closed. If you need an additional cart, for an additional cost, please call the Office of Solid waste at 772-871-1775 and press 5.

All clean and dry recycling must fit inside your green cart, with the lid closed.

Keep all carts, yard waste and bulk piles 3 feet away from anything that could block the collection truck (carts, mailboxes, utility poles, trees and fire hydrants).

Make sure the handle faces your house and the lid opening faces the street. On the same day, after service, all carts must be removed from the curb.

Yard waste is limited to a maximum of one 4-cubic yard pile per week at the curb. Branches cannot exceed 4 feet in length, 6 inches in diameter, 50 pounds in weight per piece. Loose debris must be in a container or placed in a paper bag. Palm fronds can be any length.

Bulk waste is limited to 2 cubic yards per month at the curb on your scheduled collection day. Items accepted for bulk trash pickup include appliances, furniture, carpet, mattresses and toys. If you cannot wait for your collection day, call 1PSL at 772-871-1775 and press 5 to request a free estimate.

Only three holidays affect the solid waste collection schedule: July 4, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. Regular collection services continue on all other holidays, including New Year’s Day.
