ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Travelers at the Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport will soon have another option if they want to fly to Florida.
Allegiant is adding a new route between Rochester and Fort Lauderdale. Flights to the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport begin on Feb. 12 and one-way fares start at $69.
The announcement comes as Spirit Airlines plans to end services in and out of Rochester starting on Jan. 7. Right now, Spirit offers non-stop flights from Rochester to Orlando and to Fort Lauderdale.
Even when Spirit no longer offers flights, Rochester will still have nonstop flights to Orlando through Southwest Airlines. Now, it will have flights to Fort Lauderdale through Allegiant.
It’s not just Rochester that’s getting a new Allegiant route. The airline announced 30 new nonstop routes connecting 35 cities across the country.
