Lee County commissioners have approved a plan to build a 10,000-square-foot EMS station and safe room in Northwest Cape Coral to enhance emergency response times.The empty lot along NW Douglas Parkway is set to become a home base for medical responders.The facility will allow paramedics and EMTs to sleep on-site, enabling them to reach emergencies more quickly in Northwest Cape Coral.The new station will also provide parking for ambulances and storage for medical equipment. Additionally, it will feature a hardened safe room or storm shelter capable of accommodating up to 88 staff members during hurricanes.The design portion of the project is estimated to cost nearly $900,000, funded by a grant.
