The federal investigation involving Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno has officially closed, according to Marceno’s attorney. WINK News received screenshots of the documents from Sheriff Marceno’s attorney confirming that the investigation has been closed.

WINK News has not been able to independently verify the information.

Following Tuesday’s developments, WINK News reached out to Marceno’s campaign consultant after hearing talks of a run for a congressional seat.

Anthony Pedicini, Marceno’s campaign consultant, said, “I can confirm the Sheriff is keeping all options on the table- more so today than yesterday, especially given polling that shows he’d win in a walk. By the way, those polls were done before he was exonerated.”

Talk of a possible congressional run would be focused on Florida’s 19th Congressional District to replace Republican Rep. Byron Donalds, who is running for governor. The district is considered a safe Republican seat.

If Marceno were to officially run, he would enter a GOP primary field that includes Madison Cawthorn, Chris Collins, James Oberweis, Mike Pedersen, and Jim Schwartzel. Howard Sapp is currently the only Democrat officially running in CD-19, according to the Florida Department of State website.

Jim Schwartzel is the president of Sun Broadcasting, which owns local media outlets, including 92.5 FOX News and The CW, which airs WINK News. Schwartzel has no involvement in WINK News editorial decisions.
