MIAMI COUNTY, Kan. (KCTV) – Miami County’s Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating what went wrong when a motorcycle tire failed during the morning commute, killing its rider.
The Miami County, Kansas, Sheriff’s Office says that just after 8:15 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 15, emergency crews were called to the area of 69 Highway and 223rd St. with reports of a crash.
When first responders arrived, they said they found a 2016 Indian Chief Dark Horse motorcycle on its side.
Emergency crews noted that several bystanders were already providing aid to the driver, who had suffered significant injuries.
A preliminary investigation found the bike’s tire had malfunctioned, causing the crash. The 46-year-old driver was thrown from the motorcycle in the process.
First responders said the driver was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

“The Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the citizens who stopped to render aid at the scene,” an agency spokesperson said. “We extend our heartfelt condolences to the driver’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.”
The Sheriff’s Office noted that its Traffic Homicide Unit continues to investigate the crash. Anyone with information about it has been asked to report it to the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
