SEMINOLE — A bicyclist died after he was struck by a pickup truck at the intersection of Seminole Boulevard and Valencia Terrace, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said.
Darell Groves, 82, was riding an electric bicycle north on Seminole Boulevard in the southbound bike lane about 9:21 a.m. Nov. 12 when John Baustert, 62, turned his 2012 Toyota Tacoma south onto Seminole Boulevard from Valencia Terrace, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Baustert’s truck struck Groves at the intersection, deputies said.
Groves was taken to a hospital, where he died. He was not wearing a helmet, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Baustert was not injured and cooperated with deputies, the agency said.
Speed and impairment do not appear to be factors in the crash, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating.
