Rebecca Link was sworn in as the newest member of the Fort Myers Beach Town Council on Nov. 17. Voters picked Link to replace Karen Woodson in a recall election on Nov. 4.

Link grew up in Pittsburgh and moved to Fort Myers Beach in 2008, according to her campaign website. The site outlines her three campaign pillars: protect the town from overdevelopment, preserve the island’s character and help the business community prosper.

Voters on Nov. 4 also approved a petition to recall council member John King, with Tom Brady in line to take his seat. But that decision is held up in appellate court where a judge will decide if there was ultimately sufficient evidence to recall King.

The effort to recall King and Woodson, which about 63% of Fort Myers Beach voters approved, stemmed from petitions alleging Sunshine Law violations and unreported gifts tied to land-use approvals. Both council members have denied the allegations.

At the Nov. 17 meeting, council members also voted for Dan Allers to continue as mayor and for Scott Safford to take over the vice mayor position from Jim Atterholt.  Â
