Moderate drought conditions have extended further south, now encompassing a much larger percentage of the region.

Moderate drought has taken hold across all of Desoto and Charlotte counties.

Most of Lee, Glades and Hendry Counties are under the moderate drought, while portions of Collier County are also now under the moderate drought.

The dry season has taken a tight grip across the region, leading to a growing number of days without measurable rainfall.

That number is up to 24 days across Fort Myers and Naples, with a total of 21 days since measurable rainfall in Punta Gorda.

Drought conditions can be alleviated by persistent soaking rain events.

Over the next seven days across Southwest Florida, rain chances are slim to none.

A very weak front moving through on Sunday will only bring a stray shower to the region.

There is a stronger front that will be approaching closer to Thanksgiving.

The Weather Authority is currently forecasting isolated showers in Southwest Florida for Thanksgiving and Black Friday as a cold front brings added lift and moisture to the environment.
