Orlando International Airport to begin replacing trams next month. What that means for travelers

  • November 20, 2025

ORLANDO, Fla. – Orlando International Airport is warning about changes and delays during an upcoming project to replace the trams that move travelers to some of its airline terminals.

Work will begin on the airport’s $253 million Gate Link Replacement Project on Dec. 3.

The airport is replacing the people mover vehicles that connect passengers from gates 70-129 to Terminal A and B.

That includes airlines like Air Canada, Avelo Airlines, Delta, Frontier Airlines, LATAM, Southwest, and Virgin Atlantic.

“This is something that will provide a better customer experience for all our passengers traveling through the airport,” Senior Vice President of Operations Marquez Griffin said.

According to the airport, the upgrades will make getting from security checkpoints to flight gates smoother and faster, but there may be some inconveniences during the two-year project.

When crews start work on each airside during the day, only one tram will be kept in operation, as opposed to the usual two.

To help with the process, shuttle buses will operated around the clock and, at times, may be the only mode of transportation between the gates and terminals.

“We do have a bus operation, which we are readying to transport passengers from one airside to the other to minimize disruptions should there be an unexpected interruption,”

During the project, passengers are urged to arrive at the airport early for a departing flight, and should also give themselves an extra 30 minutes if they are picking up a rental car or using ground transportation services.

The Gate Link Replacement Project is expected to be completed in the fall of 2027.
