Martin County, FL (November 20, 2025) – A tragic crash between a motorcycle and a pickup truck claimed the life of a 67-year-old Port St. Lucie man Tuesday afternoon at a rural intersection in western Martin County. The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) released new details Wednesday as the investigation continues.
The fatal collision occurred at approximately 12:42 p.m. on November 18 at the four-way stop intersection of County Road 714 (SW Martin Hwy) and SW Allapattah Rd. According to the FHP report, the motorcyclist was operating a 2021 Harley-Davidson Electra Glide southbound on SW Allapattah Rd when he failed to stop at the posted stop sign and entered the intersection without yielding.
At the same time, a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado driven by a 65-year-old Okeechobee man had come to a full stop at the eastbound sign on CR-714 and was legally proceeding through the intersection. The motorcycle struck the left side of the pickup, causing the truck to rotate and the motorcycle to overturn. The rider was ejected and came to rest on the roadway.
Martin County Fire Rescue responded and pronounced the motorcyclist deceased at 12:57 p.m. His next of kin have since been notified. The pickup truck driver sustained non-incapacitating injuries and was transported to Cleveland Clinic Tradition Hospital for evaluation.
Traffic in the area was heavily impacted. The Martin County Sheriff’s Office closed multiple surrounding roads, including portions of Allapattah Rd and SR-714, while deputies and traffic investigators worked the scene. Drivers were urged to avoid the intersection due to congestion and ongoing emergency operations.
The Florida Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation into the crash, and no further updates on citations or contributing factors have been released.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the man who lost his life in this tragic collision and wish a swift recovery to the injured driver.
Motorcycle Crashes at Rural Intersections in Florida
This fatal collision in Martin County underscores the heightened risks motorcyclists face, especially at rural, stop-controlled intersections like CR-714 and SW Allapattah Rd. These locations often combine high-speed cross traffic with minimal signal control, making precise driver awareness and compliance with signage critical for safety.
Failure to stop at intersections remains one of the leading causes of motorcycle crashes in Florida. Unlike passenger vehicles, motorcycles offer no structural protection, so even a moderate-impact collision can be fatal—especially if the rider is ejected.
Florida continues to rank among the highest in the nation for motorcycle-related fatalities, with rural roads contributing a significant portion of deadly incidents. Reduced visibility, driver oversight, and misjudged right-of-way scenarios are frequent contributing factors.
For families left behind, the aftermath of such tragedies is overwhelming. Medical bills, funeral expenses, and the sudden loss of a loved one can bring emotional and financial hardship. Access to grief support, legal assistance, and compassionate guidance is essential in helping families begin the recovery process.
