DAR honors forgotten women
Six members of the Princess Hirrihigua Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution dressed in patriotic colonial attire to highlight the heroic roles of 30 brave women — colonial white, enslaved, and Native American — who provided heroic assistance at eight major battlefields from Massachusetts to Georgia during the American Revolution. They described their diverse roles — camp followers, warriors, nurses, and spies — supporting the Patriots before and during the Revolution. The presentation took place as part of the Great American Teach-In Nov. 12 at Largo Middle IB World School. Presenters (from left) were Marianne Mathewson-Chapman, Fran Yacko, Mariel Edwards, Brenda Theisen, Marcia Duncan, and AddaJane Wallace.
