Jagged Edge

ST. PETERSBURG — Jagged Edge will perform on Sunday, Nov. 30, 7:30 p.m., at the Duke Energy Center for the Arts — Mahaffey Theater, 400 First St. S., St. Petersburg.

Tickets start at $54.15. Visit themahaffey.com.

Jagged Edge stands as one of the most successful and influential music collectives of this generation. With founding members Brandon Casey, Brian Casey, Kyle Norman, and Richard Wingo, the group has not only redefined R&B but also influenced the landscape of modern soul and pop music. With over 20 years in the music industry, Jagged Edge has sold millions of records, earned numerous awards, and consistently set a new standard for R&B.

Jagged Edge’s roots trace back to their teenage years at the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church on the East Side of Atlanta, Georgia, where Kyle, Brandon, and Brian sang in the choir. Their shared passion for music and faith laid the foundation for the formation of the group. With the help of a talent scout, the group honed their skills and caught the eye of New Edition’s Michael Bivens — a dream come true considering the group found inspiration from R&B groups such as New Edition and Boyz II Men.

Their debut album, “A Jagged Era,” released in 1997, didn’t immediately ignite commercial success but laid the groundwork for future triumphs. Despite the lukewarm response to their first single, the breakout hit, “Gotta Be,” originally written for Monica, proved to be a turning point. The group’s persistence paid off as “A Jagged Era” reached gold-selling status.

The quartet established more creative control with their sophomore effort, “J.E. Heartbreak.” Released in 1999, “J.E. Heartbreak” solidified Jagged Edge as a juggernaut in R&B with over 2 million albums sold and three Top 20 hits “Let’s Get Married,” “He Can’t Love U,” and “Promise.”

The chart-topping “Let’s Get Married” was inspired by fans who sent videos of the song “Gotta Be” being played during marriage proposals and weddings. Jagged Edge also wanted to create a love anthem that countered the oversexualized themes of R&B at the time.

The remix of “Let’s Get Married,” featuring Rev. Run from Run-D.M.C., was a game-changer in blending R&B with hip-hop, showcasing the group’s versatility and willingness to evolve. J.E. Heartbreak earned them five Billboard Awards and two Soul Train Awards, marking a peak in their early career.

Fit For A King harness the power of their brotherhood in order to perpetually push forward. The music contains traces of the members’ personal and collective experiences grafted onto an ever-evolving sonic palette of metalcore unpredictability, alternative melody, and deathcore brutality laced with electronic alchemy. As trends came and went in the background of the last decade, the outfit has weathered trials and tribulations as well as enduring the chaos of a world constantly influx. They came out of it all stronger than ever, and you can hear that strength and camaraderie loud and clear on their eighth full-length offering, “Lonely God,” released in August on Solid State Records.

Members of the quintet include Ryan Kirby on vocals, Bobby Lynge on guitar, Daniel Gailey on guitar, Ryan “Tuck” O’Leary on bass, and Trey Celaya on drums.

“All five of us have our fingerprints on this album,” said Ryan. “We found a way to balance our voices. We’ve always been genuine with the lyrics, and that’s the case again. There’s so much heart behind all of the instrumentation too. There’s definitely a lot of growth because our bond is tighter than ever.”

That bond stretches back to 2011 when Fit For A King unleashed their independent debut, “Descendants.” They continually progressed with “Creation/Destruction” (2013), “Slave to Nothing” (2014), “Deathgrip” (2016), and “The Path” (2020). Meanwhile, 2022’s “The Hell We Create” marked their fifth Top 3 debut on the Billboard Top Christian

Albums Chart and third straight Top 15 debut on the Top Album Sales Chart.

The Orpheum

Autoheart

TAMPA — London indie-pop trio Autoheart will perform on Friday, Nov. 28, 7 p.m., at the Orpheum, 14802 N. Nebraska Ave., Tampa.

Tickets start at $35.06. Visit www.theorpheum.com.

Autoheart recently returned with their most infectious and defiant album to date, “Heartlands,” via their own O/R Records. Autoheart is made up of Jody Gadsden on vocals, Barney JC on guitars and bass, and Simon Neilson on piano/keys.

“Heartlands” is a journey into the world Autoheart has quietly built with their listeners — a sprawling, defiant, often dreamlike place imagined not just by the band, but by the community that grew around them.

It wasn’t meant to be a comeback album, but it does feel like a homecoming. It is a return to the band’s roots in live instrumentation: pianos, guitars, drums, and layered, choral vocals. A record you can play loud and take straight to the stage, “Heartlands” was written partly on the road during their 2024 “Love Me Love Me Love Me” tour — their first live shows in over a decade. “Heartlands” was shaped by the energy of those nights and the rediscovery of what Autoheart had perhaps forgotten: this is what they were meant to do.

The Orpheum

Tickets start at $28.69. Visit www.theorpheum.com.

In October, Entheos released a new standalone single, “Empty on the Inside.” According to Chaney Crabb, the band’s vocalist, the new single is a raw, cathartic song about pouring your entire soul into something that you thought would bring fulfillment to your life, but it only makes you feel empty in return.

“It is Entheos in our purest form, expanding on our grunge and alternative metal sound,” said Crabb. “This track truly marks the beginning of a new era for our band.”

Other band members include Navene Koperweis on drums, Scott Carstairs on guitar, and Michael Stance on guitar.

Entheos launched a month-long headlining tour — their first ever North American trek. Support will be provided by Fallujah, The Zenith Passage, and Tracheotomy.
