BITHLO, Fla. – An Orlando man was killed in a hit-and-run crash Thursday night in Bithlo, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The wreck occurred around 9 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of State Road 50 at Lansing Street, troopers said.
According to an FHP crash report, the right rear of a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado that troopers said was traveling north on Lansing Street collided with the left side of a 2012 Toyota Highlander that was traveling east on S.R. 50, causing the Highlander to rotate and eject the 48-year-old Orlando man driving it.
A 2014 Nissan Rogue traveling east in the outside lane struck a large crate that fell from the Chevrolet and an unknown fourth vehicle traveling east in the inside lane struck the Orlando man lying in the street, the report states.
The unknown vehicle took off and the man was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said, adding the driver of the Chevrolet — identified as a 54-year-old Orlando man — was hospitalized for treatment of minor injuries. The 24-year-old Mims man driving the Nissan was not injured and remained at the scene, according to FHP.
