TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV/Gray Florida Capital Bureau) – Florida has launched a new app designed to help residents and visitors discover local businesses and attractions in Main Street communities across the state.
Secretary of State Cord Byrd announced the Florida Main Street app in preparation for Thanksgiving travel and Small Business Saturday. The free app highlights businesses, events and points of interest in Florida’s Main Street communities.
“The Florida Main Street App invites users to personalize their travel experience by building a dynamic itinerary to explore restaurants, businesses, parks, theaters, murals and historic sites in Florida’s Main Street Communities,” Byrd said.
The app features more than 4,000 businesses and includes search functions for lodging, shopping, services, food and drink, and activities such as concerts, parades and golf. Event information includes dates, times, locations and descriptions, along with details about landmarks.
“It lets you find places off the beaten track and go out and visit them,” said Ruben Acosta of the Bureau of Historic Preservation. “We see this as part of our duty to serve both our main streets, which are part of our program and the residents of Florida and visitors.”
Currently, Florida Main Street communities contain over 3,600 active businesses and 983 restaurants across 52 communities. The Department of State said enhancements under development include statewide themed tours focusing on America250FL, barbecue, breweries, cafes and coffee shops.
The Florida Main Street app is available for download on Apple and Android devices.
