TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A Tallahassee man has been sentenced to two years behind bars for conspiracy to distribute over a thousand kilos of marijuana and conspiracy to commit money laundering, according to the State Attorney’s Office in the Northern District of Florida.
Wesley D. Thomas, 37, according to the state attorney’s office, led a drug trafficking operation in Tallahassee where he brought thousands of pounds of marijuana from the West Coast to the capital city.
Authorities wrote that Thomas would fly young men and women from California and Oregon to retrieve multiple checked suitcases full of vacuum-sealed marijuana. Eventually, someone was caught with 61 pounds of marijuana at Tallahassee International Airport as they got back from Oregon.

Thomas also reportedly paid for marijuana to be driven to the capital city from the West Coast. The state attorney’s office wrote that one driver was federally prosecuted in Georgia after being stopped with 100 pounds of marijuana in their car.
The driver told authorities that for the past 18 months, Thomas was paying him to transport 350 to 500 pounds of marijuana every month. According to the press release, Thomas was also paying others using bank accounts, checks, wires and money orders.
The state attorney’s office said seven of Thomas’s managers and couriers have already been prosecuted and sentenced.
