Rattlers events: 8 essential ways to get in on the Florida A&M Homecoming fun

For Jackson, this performance is much more than just a chance to showcase her talent. It’s a reflection of her journey, her determination, and her belief in the power of her craft.

Over the past few years, she’s become a familiar face around campus and the Tallahassee community. This past summer, on June 7, 2025, she headlined the EDXN Fest at Cascades Park, marking a major moment in her rising music career.

“All of the shows that I do, I make sure that I have a lot of entertainment pieces in there. Not only of my own personal songs, but of other artists,” she said.

This performance was special to her because it was her first gospel performance and her first time singing live. She opened the performance with an energetic dance to a song by Kirk Franklin, followed by a performance of her unreleased gospel single.

“I was able to showcase Jakayla, who Jakayla really is, and what Jakayla believes in,” she said. “There was no better way to start off my first gospel performance in my first time singing live.”

With the spotlight ahead of her, Jackson is in full preparation mode. She’s been rehearsing daily and working closely with her team to craft an unforgettable performance. However the journey hasn’t been easy. Balancing rehearsals with her responsibilities as a student and a job that starts at 4 a.m. has made the process challenging.

“Its been a lot,” Jackson said. “But God is my strength and I will not fail with his guidance.”

The concert will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at the Al Lawson Center. Thousands of students, alumni, and fans are expected to fill the arena for a night to be remembered. For Jackson, this performance is more than a set on the stage. It’s a reflection of how far she has come and how far she plans to go.
