TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Hundreds came together at Cascades Park on Saturday for the annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s.
Peggy Harter attends the walk each year and said Alzheimer’s has affected her family for generations.
“My whole life really has rotated around helping people with dementia and Alzheimer’s,” Harter said. “My grandmother had Alzheimer’s and so did my mother and her only sister. So, I have been very active in Alzheimer’s and dementia since I was young.”
Harter said she currently resides in a senior living facility, and she also sees her friends go through the struggles of Alzheimer’s. “Many of the friends I’ve met over the six years I’ve lived there, I’ve lost several of them to dementia,” she said.

More than 300 people participated in this year’s walk, and Harter said the community support is incredible.
“It’s wonderful to see people of different ages and different abilities come out and support the Alzheimer’s Association,” Harter said.
WCTV’s Abby Walton was the emcee for this year’s event. In total, about $66,000 was raised to support the Alzheimer’s Association.
