Jacksonville State took control last week with two touchdowns in the final 2:42 of the first half on the way to a 35-26 win over visiting Kennesaw State, handing the Owls their first CUSA loss while taking sole possession of the conference lead at 6-0. Caden Creel threw for 137 yards and ran for 127 and two touchdowns, while Cam Cook finished with 132 rushing yards and a score. Backup quarterback Gavin Wimsatt threw a 62-yard TD pass to Deondre Johnson as time expired in the first half to give the Gamecocks a 22-10 lead at the break.Â
FIU can reach bowl eligibility with a win on Saturday after getting its second consecutive victory last week by beating visiting Liberty 34-27 in overtime. After Joe Pesansky connected with Maguire Anderson for a seven-yard touchdown on its first possession of OT, the Panthers sealed the win when Mister Clark intercepted a fourth-down pass in the end zone. Pesansky was 24-of-34 for 206 yards and two scores and also ran for a TD. Kejon Owens finished with 84 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries, and Alex Perry grabbed eight passes for 88 yards and a score. Keegan Davis had a pair of sacks for the defense.
Jacksonville State has never lost to FIU in three previous meetings, including a 34-31 win at home on Nov. 16, 2024.
