Surveillance video shows the moments before a violent dog attack in Lauderdale Lakes that sent a man to the hospital.

Investigators responded just after 11:30 a.m. Tuesday to Northwest 35th Avenue, just west of State Road 7 and south of 41st Street, to reports of a dog that bit a man.

When Broward Sheriff’s deputies arrived, they found the victim, identified as Claude LaFort, bitten multiple times. Chopper video shows what appears to be blood on the ground.

At some point, investigators say one of the dogs tried to attack the deputy, forcing the deputy to shoot.

“They rush him and when I looked, I said, ‘Oh my God, they’re gonna kill him,'” a neighbor said.

New surveillance video shows one of the dogs walking out to the street before the attack. Another is heard barking. Soon after that, the dog walks off camera, but more barking and growling can be heard.

Broward County Animal Care said in a statement Tuesday that they “secured possession of three dogs (American Staffordshire terriers). Only two were involved in the incident. Both will be humanely euthanized.”

NBC6 knocked on the dog owner’s door Wednesday afternoon, but no one responded.
