A wrong way driver on U.S. Highway 90 in Gadsden County died after causing a three-vehicle wreck, Florida Highway Patrol troopers said in a news release. Another driver was seriously hurt.
The crash happened shortly before midnight on Nov. 21 near the intersection of Dover Road in Midway.
A 37-year-old Quincy man driving a sedan was heading east on U.S. 90 in the inside westbound lane, troopers said (FHP does not identify crash victims in news releases.)
At the same time, a 48-year-old Tallahassee man in a pickup and 44-year-old Quincy woman in a sedan were heading west, in the inside and outside lanes respectively.
The wrong way driver crashed head-on into the pickup and the other sedan struck the pickup, troopers said. His car then went off the roadway into the north shoulder and into the wood line. The other vehicles remained on the roadway, blocking U.S. 90.
The wrong way driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was killed, according to the release. The pickup driver was seriously hurt and the other sedan driver received minor injuries; they were wearing seatbelts.
No others beside the drivers were in any of the vehicles, the release said.
The Florida Highway Patrol was assisted by Midway Police Department, Midway Fire and Rescue and Gadsden County EMS.
