WE’RE LEARNING WITHIN THE LAST HOUR FROM THE FAMILY AND LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIALS THAT THE LOCKSMITH, DAVID LONG, HAS NOW PASSED AWAY AS HE WAS IN CRITICAL CONDITION SINCE FRIDAY. NOW, WE’RE ALSO LEARNING THAT THE DEPUTY, FLORENTINO ARISPE, WAS RELEASED FROM HCA LAWNWOOD HOSPITAL IN FORT PIERCE AROUND NOON, AND THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE SAYS HE’S NOW RECOVERING AT HOME. DEPUTY IS A 25 YEAR VETERAN, ALONG WITH SERGEANT SERENA MARSHALL, WHO WERE ATTEMPTING TO EVICT THE SUSPECT, MICHAEL HALBERSTAM, ON FRIDAY AT THE 1100 BLOCK OF GOVERNOR’S WAY IN THE BERMUDA CLUB, SOMERSET BAY COMMUNITY IN VERO BEACH. IN THE SHOOTOUT, HALBERSTAM WAS INJURED AND TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL, BUT DIED YESTERDAY AFTERNOON FROM HIS INJURIES. Locksmith injured during eviction in Indian River County dies

A locksmith who was injured during an eviction in Vero Beach on Friday has died. A family member of David Long confirmed to WPBF 25 News Sunday evening that Long, 76, died Sunday around 2:41 p.m.The family member said Long had complications Saturday night and was placed on life support. Terri Sweeting-Mashkow and Deputy Florentino Arizpe were attempting to evict Michael Halberstam on Friday at the 1100 block of Governors Way in the Bermuda Club/Somerset Bay community in Vero Beach.Sweeting-Mashkow was shot and killed, while Arizpe and Long were shot and transported to HCA Lawnwood Hospital in Fort Pierce.“Our hearts are broken once again by this tragic news. David Long was a resident of our community, a dedicated professional who was simply doing his job when he was caught in an unthinkable act of violence,” Indian River County Sheriff Eric Flowers said in a statement Sunday. “His loss, following Sergeant Mashkow’s, is a reminder of the sacrifices made, not just by our sworn deputies, but by the everyday heroes who assist us. We extend our deepest sympathies to his family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.”Deputy Arizpe was released from the hospital on Sunday afternoon and is recovering at home after being shot in the shoulder.Halberstam was also injured during the incident and was transported to the hospital.
