GLENDALE, Ariz. – The Jaguars won, and that mattered.

They’re a game closer to first place because they won – and that mattered very much, too.

Trevor Lawrence threw 3 touchdown passes to counter 4 turnovers, and the Jaguars’ defense made its biggest stop at the biggest moment. The result: A stop-and-start, hold-your-breath late November victory over the Arizona Cardinals – 27-24 in overtime at State Farm Stadium Sunday afternoon.

“We’re not going to apologize for winning around here,” Head Coach Liam Coen said, with Lawrence adding that the victory “just speaks to this team and the resilience and just finding a way to win.”

“We’re here to win games,” Lawrence said. “We won the game. Never apologize for that.”

Kicker Cam Little‘s 52-yard field goal with 7:46 remaining in overtime gave the Jaguars their final lead. The Cardinals drove to the Jaguars 42 on the ensuing possession, with safety Andrew Wingard breaking up Cardinals quarterback Jacoby Brissett’s deep pass to wide receiver Xavier Weaver on fourth-and-4 to end the game.

“You always feel multiple emotions after a game; winning is what matters,” Coen said.

The Jaguars (7-4) won a second consecutive game to pull to within a game of the AFC South-leading Indianapolis Colts (8-3), 23-20 losers in overtime at the Kansas City Chiefs (6-5) Sunday. The Jaguars are 2-0 in overtime on the road this season.

“We have six more games ahead,” Jaguars linebacker Foyesade Oluokun said. “We have a lot to prove every game we step on this field. It’s just about keeping that mentality and looking inward because when we play for each other, that’s when we play how we want to play.”

The Jaguars are 2-0 in overtime on the road this season and are now 5-3 in one-score games after finishing 3-10 in such games last season.

“It’s a week-to-week league,” Lawrence said. “All these games are going to be close. You just have to find a way to finish. It doesn’t matter what happened the first three quarters of the game, you just got to find a way to win it in the fourth.

“We’re learning that. We’re doing a good job of that and we just have to keep doing it.”

Lawrence’s 9-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Parker Washington with 3:47 remaining gave the Jaguars a 24-21 lead but after the Jaguars stopped the Cardinals once on downs, Arizona drove for kicker Chad Ryland’s 29-yard field goal with :03 remaining to force overtime.
