WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – A 2-year-old girl playing near her Winter Haven driveway died on her birthday Sunday, when she was struck by a Tesla, according to the police department.
The crash happened before 2 p.m.
According to the Winter Haven Police Department, the girl was playing near the driveway when the Tesla began backing into the driveway, hitting the child.
Despite life-saving efforts, the girl was pronounced dead at the hospital at 3:30 p.m.
Police said the driver of the Tesla, a 31-year-old, was cooperative with investigators.
“Our hearts go out to this family losing their precious daughter at such a tender age,” Police Chief Vance Monroe said in a statement. “Entering into the holiday season compounds the pain they must be enduring, and we will continue to keep them in our prayers.”
An investigation is ongoing.
