Man airlifted to trauma center after shooting at Hialeah Gardens home
HIALEAH GARDENS, Fla. — A man was airlifted to a trauma center Sunday after a shooting at a home near the 8800 block of Northwest 113th Street, according to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.
Family member Elizabeth Brito said she arrived as police took her cousin — the victim’s mother — into custody.
“I just pray and hope that my cousin’s innocence comes out, that it was in self-defense,” Brito said.
Brito said the victim has struggled with drug addiction for years and can become aggressive.
“She’s been trying to help him for many years. I don’t know what led to this,” she said.
His condition has not been released.
Hialeah Gardens Police are continuing to investigate and have not released additional details.
