U.S. Sugar is keeping up with its annual holiday food drive across the Glades and surrounding areas, delivering thousands of meals to families, first responders and public servants ahead of Thanksgiving.

This year’s effort included 5,000 turkeys, hundreds of bags of sugar and more than 100 crates of sweet corn for giveaways in Palm Beach, Hendry and Glades counties. Employees helped lead the distribution, which reached churches, seniors, health centers, schools, first responders and charitable groups over the past two weeks.

“Our employees work hard every day to produce food for millions of Americans, and during the holidays, we cherish the opportunity to contribute directly to those living in our local communities,” said Brannan Thomas, U.S. Sugar’s Community Relations Director. “This year, we are proud to provide turkeys, bags of sugar and fresh vegetables to thousands in time for Thanksgiving and Christmas.”

The company’s holiday operation is a staple in the Glades, where nonprofit and law enforcement partners say the support makes a meaningful difference.

“Our Glades communities are blessed to have such generous support from community partners like U.S. Sugar, especially during the holiday season,” said Rick Seymour, Chair of the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Foundation. “We appreciate U.S. Sugar’s support in our efforts to provide local families with meals this holiday season.”

In Hendry County, more than 2,000 turkeys went to U.S. Sugar employees and nearby residents through Saint Margaret’s Catholic Church, the Harlem Senior Center, Florida Community Health Center, the Hendry County Sheriff’s Office and local schools.

In Palm Beach County, more than 300 turkeys were provided to public servants and residents in South Bay, Belle Glade and Pahokee, along with crates of sweet corn that were featured at a Palm Beach County Farm City luncheon. The company also partnered with the Sheriff’s Foundation to support the purchase of 2,000 more turkeys for Glades residents.

In Glades County, nearly 300 turkeys were distributed to law enforcement, public employees and residents of Moore Haven.

“We are proud to call these communities home and provide food during the holiday season,” Thomas added. “Sharing food with our neighbors is one of the many ways we show our gratitude for the people who make our region such a special place to call home.”
