Frontier Airlines kicked off nonstop flights Friday from Charlotte to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Detroit service begins Sunday. The budget carrier now flies to 15 cities from Charlotte Douglas International Airport.
Planes head to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport three times each week, while Detroit Wayne County Metropolitan Airport sees flights twice per week from CLT.
Fort Lauderdale stretches across more than 20 miles of sandy beaches and warm waters. Las Olas Boulevard draws visitors with its shops, art galleries, and places to eat.
Detroit built its reputation on cars and gave birth to Motown Records. Campus Martius Park transforms with the seasons — a beach appears when summer arrives, and an ice rink takes over during winter months alongside a towering Christmas tree.
The Denver-based company arrived at CLT back in 2014, and it’s been growing its network from the airport ever since.
Tickets are on sale now for Mardi Gras trips to New Orleans next year, with nonstop flights running from Feb. 12 through Feb. 22.
Back in February, Frontier announced direct flights to Tampa from Charlotte. Those flights started in May. Boston, Miami, and Cincinnati joined the lineup when summer rolled around.
Last year saw the budget airline add connections to several U.S. cities and Caribbean spots: New York/LaGuardia, Houston-Bush, Dallas-Fort Worth, Chicago O’Hare, Baltimore-Washington, Buffalo, New York, and San Juan, Puerto Rico.
