The Cape Coral Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred in a neighborhood located on SW 8th Place.

A Cape Coral neighbor described how his quiet morning was disrupted when he heard what sounded like seven gunshots just before 11 a.m. Monday. Initially, he thought it was a car backfiring. Later, he discovered a bullet hole in his windshield, right on the driver’s side.

“It’s extremely alarming,” said the concerned neighbor. “I have a two-year-old, like I said, and it’s very unsafe activity. You know, we’re just going to leave. And if you look at where the bullet hole is in my car, it’s right where I would be sitting if I had been, you know, 20 minutes earlier. Who knows what happened?”

No injuries have been reported.

Police confirmed with WINK News that they have detained at least one person and will provide details as the investigation continues.

WINK News reporter Cristina Pop was on scene and observed one person in handcuffs and investigators entering and exiting a house surrounded by police tape. The affected neighbor, who has a young child, filed a victim report and remains shaken by the incident’s proximity to his home.

WINK News will continue to press for updates and will provide the latest information as it becomes available.
