Officials said an off-duty Miami-Dade deputy saw Collins at a park in Miami Gardens and requested backup.

Collins spotted the off-duty deputy and ran, crossing all lanes of the Florida’s Turnpike, swimming across a canal and climbing a tree, authorities said.

The video shows the off-duty deputy pleading with Collins to come out of the tree and surrender, while another deputy is armed with a rifle.

At one point, the armed deputy warned the off-duty deputy to back up as it appeared Collins was “going into his pocket.”

Moments later, the armed deputy fires a shot, hitting Collins in the left hand.

Collins remained in the tree and refused to come down as deputies got closer and another deputy shot a less-lethal beanbag round at him, officials said.

Deputies were eventually able to pull Collins down and take him into custody before he was taken to a local hospital.

The search for Collins started on Sept. 10 after Pembroke Pines Police received a 911 call about an unresponsive and unconscious man found inside a garage at a home in the 1700 block of Northwest 109th Avenue in Pembroke Pines.

Once at the home, the body of a man, identified as Octavis Myers, who appeared to have been dead for some time, was found, officials said.

Officers then searched the home and found the body of a woman inside a bedroom.

Collins, who is the grandson of the homeowner, had gone missing before he became a suspect in the killings, police said.

Collins is facing two counts of first-degree murder with a firearm and resisting an officer without violence.
