The boats made their debut in 1925 and have been a part of Lake Eola Park, “symbolizing both the city’s creativity and its enduring commitment to recreation and togetherness,” the city said in a news release.A woman in Maitland first pitched the idea of adding a swan boat dock on Lake Eola’s shores on Oct. 3, 1925.Almost two months later, on Dec. 1, 1925, the first two pedal-powered swan boats were launched, carrying up to two dozen passengers each around the lake.A century ago, it cost children 10 cents and adults 15 cents to go for a ride on the waters of Lake Eola. The cherished tradition has been enjoyed by generations of residents and visitors in Orlando.
