So, I don’t know if that’s the reason for it.”The Port St. Lucie police chief said there have been twelve deadly crashes in the city this year.That number is higher than in 2024, with 70% of those being right-angle or T-bone crashes.He said red light cameras are designed to prevent right-angle crashes.”Oh, no, that’s not going to make a difference. I don’t think that’s going to make a difference at all. Port St. Lucie will soon see red light cameras installed at several of its busiest and most dangerous intersections.

The city council voted 3 to 1 to approve the pilot program Monday night.

It’s a controversial topic for drivers.

“I don’t think it’s a good idea. I think it’s going to create more accidents,” Michael Caine said. “I think they’re just going to, they’re going to step on the brake and create more problems. You know, you know, people are tailgating now. So, I don’t know if that’s the reason for it.”
