FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. – A Palm Coast woman is petitioning to add yet another county to the Sunshine State — this one named after the nation’s 47th president.
The petition urges lawmakers and Gov. Ron DeSantis to redesignate a portion of Flagler County as “Trump County.”
According to the petitioner, who identified herself as Jen Herold, the county would extend throughout the coastal barrier islands off Flagler, St. Johns and Volusia counties.
This range spans from the northern point of Anastasia Island through the southern end of Ponce Inlet, being separated from the mainland by the Matanzas and Halifax rivers.
Under the petition, the new “Trump County” would span all of the coastal barrier islands from Anastasia Island to Ponce Inlet. (Google Maps)
For the “Reason” segment of the petition, Herold wrote the following:
“President Trump is a once-in-a-generation leader, a master dealmaker, real estate titan, and the greatest president of our time. As the first president to call Florida home, it’s time we honor his extraordinary legacy by establishing Florida’s 68th county: Trump County – a lasting testament to his impact on our state and nation.
This new county demands an extraordinary canvas, so we’re proposing a stunning 60-mile stretch of Northeast Florida’s pristine coastline. This jewel boasts breathtaking state parks, a world-class coastal golf resort, charming Old Florida towns, and the world’s most famous beach. With vast potential for growth and redevelopment, it’s the perfect stage for future Trump-inspired projects that will shine as brightly as his legacy.”
The petition was launched on Nov. 17 and has a target of 500 signatures, though as of Tuesday evening, only around 70 had been obtained. The petition has until May 16 to gather the remaining signatures.
Even if the petition reaches its goal, however, there is no information about what that would entail.
Regardless, you can find the full petition here.
